20 year old Kelsey Poulton from Cheshire was crowned Miss Galaxy England at the UK Galaxy Pageants 10th anniversary! Get to know Kelsey by reading her interview below!
What made you want to enter the UK Galaxy Pageants?
Since the age of 11 I have competed in Pageant Girl systems. I took a 3 year break to concentrate on my studies and do some travelling. I came back to Galaxy because I wanted another chance at achieving my dream. Another reason is that I found once I started university I had a little bit of spare time and I remember just absolutely loving the journey in the lead up to a Pageant and so I wanted to make every moment count and really get involved in my community and with organisations that are close to my heart.
What did you do to prepare for the final?
Firstly I had to make sure I was organised as I have to balance work, university, family and Pageant life it can sometimes get a bit crazy so making sure I was prepared was key. I also made sure I was the best version of myself, healthy and happy. And finally I completed appearances across the UK to make the most of my time as Miss Cheshire Galaxy and organised lots of my own charity events to support The Christie.
What is the best thing about being a Galaxy Girl?
The best thing about being a Galaxy Girl is the friends you’ll meet and the opportunities it brings. I have met so many people along my journey and I have had the opportunity to do some amazing things such as Abseil challenges, Zipline challenges, Tower Runs, holding my own charity ball and so many more. Opportunities I will cherish forever.
Who is your inspiration?
Ed Sheeran is my inspiration, he shows that you can come from nothing and as long as you work hard and strive for your goals you can reach them.
What part of the international Galaxy Pageants in Orlando are you most excited about?
I am most excited for meeting the other contestants and getting to spend quality time with my sister queens. I’m so excited to explore Orlando and dance the night away at the White party that I’ve heard is so much fun.
Tell us your favourite:
Food – has to be Salt and Pepper Chips from the Chinese, anyone who knows me know that they are the way to my heart.
Song – After the Galaxy finals my favourite song is Birthday by Katy Perry. Every time I listen to it, it reminds me of how much fun I had with the other contestants at rehearsals learning our opening number.
Beauty Product – My Morphe brushes, they are amazing, I can’t live without them. Ps thanks George for them (he won’t let me live it down if he doesn’t get a mention)
Do you have any exciting plans/appearances organised for your year as a Galaxy queen?
I have a few exciting appearances up my sleeve but you’ll have to follow my ‘Miss Galaxy England 2018/19- Kelsey Poulton’ page to see what I get up to.
When you aren’t busy being a beauty queen, what do you do in your free time? Do you have any hobbies?
When I’m not in Pageant land I am studying at university for my degree in International Tourism Management at the University of Chester. In summer I love spending time with my friends and heading down to Abersoch and trying out all sorts of crazy water sports.
What advice would you give to girls who are thinking about entering the UK Galaxy Pageants?
For girls thinking about entering Galaxy. My advise is to go for it, you have to be in it to win it! Don’t compare yourself to others, no one is you and that is your power. My most important piece of advise is to enjoy every minute, as soon as you get your sash, go out, get involved, make appearances, get to know the other girls. Enjoy the day, feel beautiful and do your absolute best. Like Holly says there’s only ever 1 winner and so if you enjoy the journey and achieve small personal goals then that is winning in itself and you’ll have an amazing time.
